Backpacking 101

We have wanted to get the kids out backpacking for a while now, and took advantage of a free weekend just before summer break, to make it happen.  We invited our new friends the Baum's to join us, and we picked Dominguez canyon for its accesibility and access to water in the desert.

It was really a beautiful hike, and we found a great place to camp near the water.

Some cool petroglyphs on the trail we hiked the next morning.

The rocks and water, made for some pretty dramatic scenery.

So did this collared lizard

And we were happy there were still a few flowers in bloom.

Jacob and Zaila are in the same grade, and class in school.  They get along pretty well, and ave become good friends between school and primary.  It was fun to see them hike and talk together most of the time.

Everyone had a good time, and even enjoyed themselves, enough to say they'd do it again.

Well everyone, but this guy.  Spencer pretty much hated this activity...I guess there has to be one.
