Back to School!

The girls were really so excited to start school this year. New school, new teachers, new principle, new dress code...

Amanda asked the principle what the dress code was and she said "we just want you to be comfortable, with a few exceptions". You should have seen Amanda's jaw drop. Then she looked down at the shoes she was wearing, some slides with a small heel, and said could I wear these shoes? The principle says "sure as long as it is not your P.E. day." And the conversation went from there. Later she told me this is the coolest school ever. I let each girl pick a few outfits, and you would think we were at a candy shop. I guess the uniform thing of the past was a bit boring, (I secretly liked it). But seriously they loved trying on clothes that they picked and I am grateful I have picked up a few thrift store items and hand me downs to supplement so I could hold my budget together.
The first day went fabulous. Maren came home telling me that it was the "best day of school of her whole life". And Amanda was full of comparisons from "old to new". Her favorite thing is how they can take their spelling tests outside. I love how relaxed the school feels as a whole and how concerned they are for each kid in general. I also love how open they are to parents being in the classroom, something I have missed for sure! I knew we would like it, but honestly we love it!
The one thing that is a bit crazy is the commuting this year..we are one house away from being in the bus zone, so I either bike with them, as the road is pretty busy they travel on, or I drive them. But either way it is usually fairly pleasant, as the bell doesn't ring until 8:50 (lovin that late start!) . I pick up Spencer from his preschool in the afternoon, so I guess I am already out and about then.
Spencer started an afternoon preschool four days a week that is run by the school system. His teachers did a home visit and then had an open house prior to the first day to help acclimate kids and parents (amazing I tell ya). He had been nervous initially, but by the first real day was telling me bye, before I was ready to leave. It is nice not to have him so bored at home, it is amazing the things he would find in the garage to tinker with when I wasn't paying attention. He loves his teachers and sings me songs he learns at circle time all the time. He also loved the spider shape he was assigned to wear the first day, and wearing a backpack like the girls do.

Jacob loves dropping of Spencer so he can play on the playground there for a few minutes, and he always has to bring backpack along too. He is making great progress with the speech therapist that comes once a week. We spend a little time everyday playing the games she shows me. And it is amazing to see it add up over time. He is still super hard to understand and many of the sounds still sound the same to others, but not to me, and he is so happy to be able to talk. This is his new cheesy grin he came up with this week.
And Jacob is loving some one and one time, although limited, because of his nap. Which I love because for at least two hours I can accomplish something without any interruptions at least four days of the week. This is what I was doing this week...thanks for your help mom!

They grow yummy peaches around here!
It is so good that I have that two hours four days a week, because with the driving involved with school, preschool, swim team, and soccer this year I am sure to go insane.
