Summer kick off camping trips

With all that was on our schedule during the school year I have really looked forward to the relaxed pace of summer all year long.  And it has not disappointed.   We went on a family camping trip to Arches, NP to kick off the summer vacation, and had a blast.

Patty joined us for the entire four days, and Dave's sister Emily was brave enough to join us for two nights with her three kids including a 6 week old.  Amanda loved getting the job of holding Anna when we were all busy, and Anna loved her.  Jacob and Spencer also loved Anna, almost too much, and wanted their turns holding her too.  They were so curious about everything baby, I guess it has been a few years since Jacob was little around our house.

Before the cousins arrived Tuesday we went on a very washboard dirt road to hike Tower arch, it was a great arch with a lot of scrambling around it.  But it was a very hot hike, I think everyone drained their camelbaks.  But the view was incredible and most of the kids hiked the whole thing without help!

Once cousins arrived, the kids loved having cousins come to climb around on the rocks with.  We did some great hikes, including this one to Sand dune Arch, in which Dave played Sherpa with all the kiddo's.  Love my super human husband=)

Patty and I had hiked back to the trail head to get vehicles to shuttle tired kids back after the hike, so Emily and Dave were hiking with all seven kids...fun fun!  It was all great until one had to go to the bathroom.

Super big thanks to Emily for being the lone caregiver hanging out under the shade of the arch, amidst all the tourists!  Not to mention taking and sharing all these awesome pictures, as I had failed to charge my camera.

Dave woke up early the morning of our departure and hiked delicate arch on his own.  He said it was nice in the cool of the morning without the crowds.  Beautiful place!

After getting home and unpacked and a bit of the laundry pile tackled, Dave turned around and took the kids on a father kids camp out with our ward (church).  He was all the more a super hero in my mind for doing this.  This time the kids were around woods and water, and they found this salamander to make friends with.  They really wanted to bring him home...I think Dad promised them he'd really think about a real pet to talk them out of it...now they want a bearded dragon...hmmmm.
