Gobble gobble

We had a quiet Thanksgiving this year, but that was fine, as the stomach flu had made rounds through the house the week prior and we were busy recuperating.  But we were still able go for a lovely bike ride the morning of and then indulge in some turkey, etc, and of course our annual making of gumdrop turkeys.
I think I keep up this tradition that I grew up with mostly because I love gum drops.
(Shhh don't tell the kids)

The kids had the week of Thanksgiving off so I tried to plan in some fun outings.  We went to the old Avalon Theatre down town for a showing of Brave.  Maren has been obsessed with this movie, beroe and since.  She tells me she is not into the princesses anymore but she does still like Merida.  The girls loved it, the boys not so much, but I got a chance to explore the cool theater during the "scary parts" (pretty much the whole movie).
We also played lots with friends, and Amanda had her first of many physical therapy appt. to get her foot to heal. I was also able to sneak out for a little black friday shopping to get my Christmas list knocked out, never thought shopping at 3 am would be so much fun=)
And I just couldn't leave out this cute picture of Spencer playing in the microwave box, which I think they liked more that the new microwave we got, of course.  The boys played in it all week long and were sad to see it go, but of course someone had to try and sit on it...

After the turkey was all gobbled up and the shopping frenzy was over, we took a jaunt up on the Mesa to hunt for Christmas tree.  I would like to say it was great fun, but the kids were whiny and the parents were less that patient with that.  But we did find a tree, and it was pretty, and smelled divine.  I had to laugh that it was not so strong and the lights and ornaments weighed it down quite a bit. I guess the whole experience is what it is all about.

I think the best part about Thanksgiving this year was that it was early...I loved that extra week to get ready for Christmas, and I loved that it didn't overlap with Amanda's and my birthday as well.  Not that I really mind sharing my birthday with Thanksgiving.  I really like pumpkin pie, but once in a while a birthday should just be a birthday.  Dave and I went out to breakfast to down town to celebrate and went shopping for a picture to put in our living room. Still no picture as it was Monday and all the art galleries are closed on Mondays, but hey we tried!
