Spring Acitivities

Maren had probably the best soccer season I have yet seen.  She really came into her own.  It was a gradual skill gain over the course of the season.  She gained some ball handling skills that allowed her to move around other players quickly and take the ball to the goal.  By the last half of the season she was scoring a few goals every game.  Usually as a midfielder.  She had tons of assists and also gained a good understanding of off-sides. She also played a bit of goalie.  She never saw a ton of action, but she did have a few saves.  This is her last season playing rec ball, next year she will move on to middle school soccer.  She will do great.

Jacob had a blast this season.  His coach has never played soccer, and just stepped up to the plate when no one else volunteered.  His son is on the team.  It was a rough start.  But he got the hang of it and by the end they were a really great team.  Jacob would ask almost everyday, when I picked him up from school, if it was soccer practice day or not.

This picture cracks me up.  This was their last game, not sure what the tongue is about.  He too gained a lot of skill, and made a few goals most every game.  He really likes playing defense, which translates into standing in front of the goal to block his opponents (their is no goalie at his level).

Spencer did a fair amount of sideline watching with me, he decided not to play this season.  It was nice to have a little less to keep track of and drive to.

He and I did get out for a mountain bike ride and he rocked it.  I love biking with him because he has no fear on the trail.  He try's everything I tell him he can do.  That is awesome.

Amanda was able to participate in an oboe day event at the local university.  She really enjoyed herself.

She also got a much anticipated new oboe this spring.  She had grown out of her old one and needed to move on.  We were able to put the money we had used to rent her previous one towards a new one.  She has been a very happy girl since.

We have enjoyed the spring, and have tried to get out a few times.  We explored the riverfront trail and found baby owls, baby ducks, and a nest that were told had some some small baby osprey in it.

My biking friends and I have been talking for a while about taking a mountain biking clinic to help improve our technique.  We finally did it this spring.  It was a blast!  We did both a skills clinic in a park with built in obstacles, and a trail ride.  I got to demo two really nice bikes.  It has left me wanting for sure.

I took a really nasty fall on the trail ride.  Here is a link if you have the stomach to watch...

And Dave completed a 68 mile road race in Palisade this last weekend.  He took 8th place.  The weather was cold, rainy, and windy, but he still finished in less time than he anticipated.  He was pleased.  This is the first of a long list of training races he has lined up before he tackles the LoJa this fall...200 plus miles.  He was sore yesterday, I can't even imagine how he will feel after that.

All I have to say Natalie, is that your kids better come away saying, "I had one of the best childhoods ever! My parents provided me with all the adventures, opportunities to develop my talents, and love I could ever ask for." You guys are amazing!
