It is a year of new beginnings for these kiddos.
Jacob finally got to start Kindergarten! He is so excited to finally get to bike to school with the other kids in the neighborhood. He loves everything about school, except that he has to come home at noon. But we figured out that he could stay a few days a week all day with a kindergarten enrichment program, and he loves that.
He has been experimenting with different hairstyles of late...he obviously was inspired after watching little rascals with this do.
I love this picture I took of him dancing with his cousin Sydney. They were rein acting a movie I think. He was the prince.
Amanda started High School this fall. I am old! It was huge transition for her, from the small program she was in at the middle school, to the biggest high school here in the valley. But she is doing well.
I am so sad this picture didn't turn out better! It was so pretty, but a little too dark. We took a little road trip to Utah for my brothers retirement party up at Snow Bird.
She loves the band program at the high school and was selected to play for both the select band of western Colorado, and her schools wind ensemble as first chair oboist. She has played a few songs at church, and I am impressed with her progression this year. The best part is she loves it, and I never have to remind her to practice anymore, it is her favorite homework these days.
Spencer didn't start at a new school like the rest of the kids, but he did graduate to the upper grades, which means he gets access to the big kid playground and his classroom is in the detached building. He has the same teacher he had for Kindergarten, as she moved to third grade a few years back. He is a becoming a great reader, and loves to read on his own these days. Finding him and Jacob like this is treat for a mom.
His cub scout den made this diorama out of duplo's to show things they find reverence in, it was very creative. They also had a fun jamboree where they did come trail maintenance, and then learned how to properly retire a flag, complete with a picnic dinner and awards ceremony.
Maren started middle school this fall. It was a tough transition at first, as she LOVES to sleep in. Middle school starts at 7:30 here, a full hour earlier than elementary. After getting used to that, things started to fall into place for her. She loves going to different classes, and has surprised us all by keeping fairly organized and on top of homework on her own. And..... she celebrated her 12th Birthday! She was super thrilled by an early surprise party to the roller rink. She had no idea.
Maren is participating in the school choir this year and loves that, she was so excited for her first performance. She is also participating in MESA, which is a math and science after school program which she has found to be a fun outlet for her creativity. She also made a new friend this fall when we were at Snowbird, Bennett's sister Marley and she really hit it off in an afternoon. So fun for the two of them.
