Drum roll please...

That's right, we have a new record setter around here...

Jacob passed the nine months mark this week. He also did what we have come to expect as the norm around this household and decided to take his first steps ridiculously early. Yes that's right, he is now our earliest walker...and we thought Spencer was early at 9 1/2 (Maren was 11 months and Amanda was 10 1/2). Maybe it has something to do with all the cheerleaders around, maybe he just can't stand being left behind, but regardless it means one thing to me...let the chase begin.
Along with the first steps has come the stair climbing and my personal favorite...flinging himself on the poof pillow. This is in imitation of the kids nightly jumping session that he apparently wants to be a part of. It really is cute to watch.

Jacob is also sporting two front, (top) teeth, and is now eating soft table food. We are so glad he has recently decided that eating is a good thing, because he continues to hover at the bottom of the growth chart, at 16 lbs 4 oz, and 26 inches tall (I think). It is fun to watch him figure out his toys, and get excited to see the girls when they get home from school. He is taking two regular naps and sometimes a third in the evening if his afternoon was interrupted by noisy kids (i.e. Spencer who didn't nap) or an after school activity. He is a very light sleeper, and continues to wake up to nurse once a night. (Hopefully that will go away on it's own soon! I hate the cry it out method.) And he is really starting to babble lately, which is soooo cute.

We have spent the last few weekends at the botanical gardens. This last weekend with Amanda's girl scout troop, which was fun to get a tour with the naturalist. She identified all sorts of plants I had been trying to figure out, and we got to see a copperhead snake from a safe but good vantage point in the wild, which the girls amazingly all thought was really cool.
The weekend before we took the kids there for a hike, hoping to carry over the "loving to hike" attitude that they all had while in Utah for Spring break. But it wasn't meant to be as they whined the WHOLE way, Spencer ended up in a fire ant nest while trying to climb a fallen tree, he only got a few bites, but I got several trying to get them off of him. (Spencer also came home with a tick.) And then Maren proceeded to round out the day with a bout of the stomach flu. Luckily she was the last one to get it, as the boys and I had already made the rounds the week before.
The gardens are remarkable though this time of year, my camera doesn't do it justice. This is Amanda's favorite, it is a weeping rose tree, it was gorgeous...

I love the Dogwoods..

And the kids creation...they put all the blooms they had collected from the ground and put them on these lily pads...the lilies will really bloom in a month or so, but for now they almost look real.

Looks like you had an awesome vacation. Botanical gardens look lovely, I wish we had something like that here. Being up in the mountains means that spring blooms come slowly. I'm ready for green trees, but I'm glad to see tulips, daffodils, and blooming trees.

Hooray for Jacob! I loved the video; he seems like a real cutie. Sorry that the botanical gardens was not quite the relaxed stroll through nature I'm sure you would have preferred. Kids sure do keep life interesting, don't they?
