Spring has sprung in this desert

The kids really had a great spring this year.  It was fun to see the progress they made at school and with their activities.  They have made such great friends, and have worked and played hard.

Spencer loves cub scouts.  He has made some really great friends in his den, and has loved his leaders.  The leaders are always so good to take pictures, which is awesome!  for his elective activity Spencer did a dinosaur activity which involved making a dino dig out of plaster and little plastic dinosaurs.  He also made this dessert that was a concoction of jello and pudding and animal crackers...yikes!

I was able to spend a lot of time in Spencer's classroom this year.  He had the same teacher that he had when he was in kindergarten, and she loves volunteers.  I helped most Wednesdays with lots of odds and ends, math, and sometimes with field-trips as well.  The last week of school he put on a play for an adaptive fairy tale his buddy wrote.  He was the raccoon villain, and he did a great job.
His class did a hike on the monument with the other 3rd graders on the serpents trail.  And he had a fun field day as well.  He has been lucky to have almost all of his best friends in his class this year.

Jacob and I lived up our last afternoons together.  It will be weird to not have an afternoon pickup next year, but I am excited for him to finally be in school all day.  He is so ready, and so bored at home.  We rode our bikes to get ice cream for a date one day.  He really hates tagging along with me on my to do lists, so I tried really hard this year to do something fun with him at least once a week.  he loved it.  He is more than ready for first grade.

Swim day field trip during the last week of school is always my kids favorite field trip of the year.  jacob loved swimming with his buddy Trenton.   These two have had a lot of fun having play dates this year a few times a month.

Jacob played another season of soccer.  He continues to love it, and to grow as an athlete.  He even tried a few special moves on the field during games toward the end of the season.  But his favorite part was playing with his friends.  Paxton (his best friend from our neighborhood) even played with him this season, which was fun for them both.

Maren had a great soccer season as well, although I forgot to take any pictures.  Her team really came together this season and built a lot of camaraderie.  She also had a fabulous coach, a former teachers aid from elementary, that I was thrilled to see her really grow under.  She developed so many skills this season, and was not afraid to try them on the field.  I was impressed on so many levels.

She had a fun spring with these two best friends, including a fun afternoon getting ice cream for her friends birthday.  They often would opt to walk home together, the two miles from school, rather than get a ride, just for fun.  Jolene, on the left will be moving soon.  We will miss having her close by!

Maren also finished up a great school year.  She was given a character award for what her school calls the power of 3;  Respect, Responsibility, and Relationships.  All of her teachers had to have nominated her for this award.  Proud of her.  Math continues to be her strong subject, but she did great all around academically.  Choir became one of her favorite classes, she even tried a solo at solo and ensemble festival and did great.  She is ready to tackle 7th grade next year.

Amanda had a busy spring with her band and academic team activities.  There was a two week period where she had 8 concerts, one an overnight trip to the front range for a state competition, and two academic team functions.  I was tired just watching her.  She was involved with three bands this spring, one of them a full orchestra which was an awesome experience for her.  All that playing has really payed off, as she is feeling quite confident in her skills, and has decided that she wants to be a music major come college.  A few more years before she is to that point, but fun to here her talking about her dreams. The picture below (in the dinosaur hat) was from her final concert as it was a Jurassic park theme.  She rocked her solo.

And in the other picture she and her friend, Kylie, made cakes for extra credit for her AP Human Geography class.  She managed to squeek through with all A's this semester, which was awesome.  And notice no cane!!!  She has had a few minor sprains, but is able to recover without other issues creeping in.  This is huge for her!  She is loving having two hands to do things with.

While the kids were away, at school anyway, Dave and I found some time to play.  We got out riding pretty consistently together for a few weeks in a row.  One of the rides we came across this bad boy...
or I should say I came across this bad boy.  It was huge, but luckily just a bull snake, and not a rattler.  I turned around so fast Dave almost ate my bike.  This snake must have a nice home under here, because it disappeared completely after we took this shot.

And to make up for that monster, here are a few beauties.  The desert flowers this spring have been amazing!  And that hubby of mine is pretty amazing too, I love spending time with him!
