'Tis the Season

It felt like the weirdest holiday season ever with such warm temperatures and still no snow.  We continued our tradition of cutting down a tree on the Mesa and it was easy without any snow.  We drove in on a dirt road, and hiked around in an area that is usally pretty in accessable.  The tree we got is great, but it was so fast without having to put on snow shoes and hike in, then dig out the tree trunk from under under the snow.
And the kids had school up until 3 days before Christmas this year.  So back to grind we went.  Amanda finished up her very busy semester with 4 AP classes.  She worked her tail off, and pulled off all A's.  Not an easy feat!  She also was very busy recording audition videos for All State (and a few summer camps she hopes to attend).  She was thrilled to get into All State Orchestra in their top orchestra.  Her band teacher told her that she was the only oboist from the western slope of Colorado to do that in 20 years.

Maren finished up her third year of tech-ed at her middle school, and got to make this electric guitar!  Wowza!  It made me laugh at the little pencil tray I welded in tech-ed back in my Jr high days!  And Yes, the guitar and amplifier work...now we need to get someone to learn how to play it!

Maren and Jacob both played Christmas songs at a few local care centers for their holiday concert.  They both did great.  I love that their teacher does this every year.  The best part though was when Jacob's santa head band fell into his eyes during his song.  He just kept going, until he didn't remember the piece any more.  It was pretty cute.

The boys aren't to big to visit the big guy at the ward Christmas party, although I think Spencer was pretty sure he knew who Santa's helper really was.

I had helped with planning the Polar Express themed Christmas party, and it was fun to see it all come together.  It was a ton of work, but doable with lots of help from others.

Despite the warm weather Santa still found his way to our house.  We enjoyed a fun morning of gifts and family time.  The kids were excited about thier toys and Amanda was excited to get some real luggage for all her academic team trips and music camps.

Aunt Jenn had our families name this year, and she spoiled us with Clue and Mastermind.  Two games we grew up playing together, and ones my kid all loved from the start.  Yay for family game nights!

I love excited Spencer was to get a new camelbak that actually fits!  He loves being outdoors.  He keeps telling me that when he grows up he wants to live in a cabin on the Mesa.

And of course Skai got a few surprises as well.

Instead of sledding on the Mesa, as has been our tradition for years during the Holiday break, we did a hike up the Palisade rim trail, again due to lack of snow.  It was fun to get out anyhow, and the kids loved discovering the Indian writings on the rocks around here.

And my favorite picture of the break.  Jacob taking a nap with Skai.  He is one patient dog, and Jacob is just about too big to get away with this much longer!
