Ike

So Hurricane Ike came in with a little more of a bang, than did Gustav. Not that anyone wants a hurricane and all the destruction that goes along with it. Trust me I don't. But for all the preparation and the school days lost, at least we got some action out of this one. We got a few of the outerbands of the storm, and as we lie to the east of Houston (I guess you get more action on the east side of a hurricane's eye) we got a few tornado's, strong winds, lots of rain, and tons of time inside our home. Friday night was eventful as the tornado sirens went off about every 2 hours. I slept right though them, so we are lucky none came our way. The power even went out...only for 20 minutes, but at least it was something!

The "acorn hut" as termed by Amanda and Maren, made from a fallen tree

Spencer splashing in puddles in the aftermath of Ike

The one thing I have learned from these storms is that the walls sure do close in on you when you are inside with three kids. I don't know if it is the anxiety level they pick up on or they just want to see the "action" outside. But even Amanda was having a hard time reading, which is pretty amazing as any other time the whole house could crumble around her and she wouldn't notice if she has her nose in a book. Maren for her part just needs to get outside to get the raw energy out, or else the couches take a beating. And Spencer..well..he discovered that he could climb the book shelves during the action, not a good thing. What do I do with him!

LOVE the acorn hut. We didn't even have that many tree limbs go down around our house. You got some way cute pictures of the aftermath.

As for Spencer climbing . . . I think you should seriously look into getting that velcro wall so that he could climb the wall like Spiderman. :)
