Firetrucks

While visiting Amanda's school today I got a treat. The fire truck was visiting. Amanda answered a question correctly and was chosen to be the fire captain, (along with her class mate "the chief").
They just stood on the sidelines the whole time like this. It was fun to see her hold that helmet on her head for over a half hour...smiling through most of it...what a kid won't do to be in the spotlight!

Q- "Why does the fire captain where red suspenders?"

A-"To hold your pants up" (She said it just like that)

Spencer played with Kate (my friend Stacy's daughter) this morning, he kept climbing on the firetruck with her. (Maren does that when he is riding, and he loves it, so I am sure he thought Kate would love it too.) Kate kept giving me this look, like can you please tell him to just leave me alone.

Maren learned to ride a two wheeler yesterday. Dave had taken off her pedals a few days ago, and just let her ride around balancing with her feet. She didn't show much interest in the bike at all that way, but yesterday when Dave was just getting home from work he noticed that she was actually trying it. After a few rides down the street he told her it was time to put the pedals back on so she could brake better, and off she went. She even can start the bike herself, as long as it is not uphill, and can manage the hilly street we live on. Amazing! As she was finishing up last night I told her to not ride down the driveway, as it is super steep with a decent bump at the end. She took one look at me and just went down, totally in control. Got off her bike and went inside. She makes me laugh, obviously I have underestimated my super hero daughter.

Yeah, Kate was all about the crusty facial expressions yesterday. I told her she should start a doughnut shop and name it "Crusty's" but Chris told me someone had already beaten her to the punch. Oh well, she could marry into the company. :) Kate and Spencer together always crack me up.

And as for Amanda . . . See? There are advantages to being the ultra answer girl! Like getting to wear a huge helmet on your head! :)

Oh, P.S. When Maren's on a Wheatie's box can we say we knew her back when?

That's awesome! I am so impressed that Maren is such a good bike rider. And that suspenders joke is too good. :)
